Honest relationship communication

A contemporary three-rune practice for opening an agreed conversation when rehearsing accusations leaves little room to listen.

I will describe what I observed and make room for my partner's view.

Why these three runes

Isa

Pause: interrupt the accusation you are rehearsing before the conversation.

Ansuz

Honest speech: describe one specific observation without guessing your partner's motives.

Gebo

Reciprocity: invite your partner's perspective and respect their choice to answer, pause, or stop.

How to work with it

  1. Choose a time you both freely agree to talk. Briefly picture sharing one observation and hearing another view, then name the accusation you keep rehearsing.
  2. Draw Isa, Ansuz, and Gebo in that order. Trace the row while saying the intention once.
  3. If you rehearse 'you always,' replace it with one specific observation. Prepare the question, 'How has this felt from your side?'
  4. At the agreed conversation, share the observation and ask your question. Listen without requiring agreement, respect a request to pause or stop, and later note whether you made room for the answer.

Your if-then plan: If I rehearse 'you always' before our agreed conversation, then I replace it with one specific observation and open with that sentence followed by, 'How has this felt from your side?'

The honest layer

For a conversation both partners freely choose. Respect boundaries and requests to pause; agreement is not owed. Any effect specific to this rune combination is [unverified]. This is a modern symbolic practice, not an attested ancient formula. The drawing supports attention and action; it does not replace either.
