Contemporary practice

Personal boundaries

A contemporary three-rune practice for giving a clear answer without accepting a commitment you do not want.

I will answer according to my actual willingness.

Why these three runes

Algiz

Boundary: recognize the personal limit you have already chosen.

Gebo

Willing exchange: care does not require an automatic yes.

Ansuz

Speech: put the decision into one clear, courteous sentence.

How to work with it

  1. Write the boundary you want to keep and the short answer that expresses it.
  2. Draw Algiz, Gebo, and Ansuz in order. Trace the row while speaking the intention once.
  3. Rehearse your answer without adding an offer you do not mean.
  4. When an automatic yes begins, pause and give the prepared answer. Later, note what you actually said.

Your if-then plan: If I begin agreeing to a request I do not want to accept, then I pause and say, 'I can't take that on,' without adding an offer I do not mean.

The honest layer

For answering an ordinary, nonurgent request and choosing your own commitments. It does not control another person's response. Any effect specific to this rune combination is [unverified]. This is a modern symbolic practice, not an attested ancient formula. The drawing supports attention and action; it does not replace either.
